Squeeze’s first set of new tunes in 17 years also serves as the score for the BBC sitcom of the same name. Set in south London in the mid ’70s, Cradle to the Grave is a perfect project for Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, who use it as a platform for their own reminiscences of the era. Instead of resorting to outright nostalgia, the duo cleverly echo the warm blend of country and R&B that pub rock popularized in 1974 and ’75. One notable exception is “Honeytrap,” a new-wave romance that totally could be the more innocent prequel to Squeeze classic “Up the Junction.”
