After a 10-year break, Seal brings producer Trevor Horn back into the fold, and the result isn’t a great departure for either as the two re-create minor variations on the grandiose piano/synth hum they perfected in the mid ‘90s. But this will be a relief to longtime fans who share Horn’s suspicions that this expressive singer’s smooth vocals are served best when the musical accompaniment is muted. A few more club bangers might have been welcome, but Seal knows uptempo cuts are mere momentary diversions from his true calling, which remain dark, emotive ballads.
