Releasing their debut in 1976 -- too early to qualify as new wave -- this British band earned more than a few comparisons to Eno-era Roxy Music. Speedy pacing had a lot to do with it, as did Ian Ritchie's Andy Mackay-style sax and Rev. Max Wipple's campy but propulsive brothel-house piano. Rock 'n' roll rhythm overcomes the group's undeniable thespian tendencies most hookily in "Get Set Ready Go," though "What A Way To End It All" sounds like oddball French pop duo Les Rita Mitsouko would a decade later, and "Where's The Weekend?" suggests the less guitar-ful side of '70s Sparks.
