Disquera: Black Space Riders
This self-proclaimed German "New Wave of Heavy Psychedelic Space Rock" band covertly conveys a mood of Middle Eastern migrants slipping across borders. "Born a Lion (Homeless)," whose North African rai glottal twists depict the "son of a desert chief" who winds up on skid row in the West, tunnels straight into "The Lure (Come With Us)," with foreboding invitations to "sell your house and family" evoking terrorist recruitment and sex trafficking. Thick, repetitive rhythms, downright doom-metal in "Curtains of Death," build to the boiling point under mantras conjuring a cross-continental crisis.
